Hello Conscious Beauties,
People are asking why I am involving myself in politics now too! Please bear with me friends as I explore this opportunity to grow. It’s not enough I do service work for At-Risk Teens and Women in Prison, or assist women as a Fashion & Style expert in discovering the beauty inside themselves and reflecting it into the outer world, or follow my spiritual path towards self-knowledge and truth….I have to get into politics too?
Well, to be honest I have never been one to follow or even talk about politics before. Partly because I have never been interested in political science, and partly because I have never really trusted those so called “representatives” of the people. It always seemed they were merely representing themselves, and not the people really. Unless a certain move got them votes or favoritism in the polls. But for the most part it looked to me as if they were simply “bought off.” And now, as we review the recent track record of our government, I think the evidence is pretty obvious as the corporations get the bail outs and more and more people in this country or homeless, incarcerated, or jobless.
The moment I heard Marianne Wilkinson was running for the US House of Representatives in my own district here in LA…I had a rush of energy and hope. Here was a women who had personally inspired and counseled me 25 years ago when my own life was challenging and I was at a loss. My fiancé, Steve Clark of Def Leppard, was bottoming out in downward spiral of his own addictions and it was Marianne who came to our rescue. She was a spiritual leader back the who spoke on the “Course in Miracles”a self-study curriculum, based on the teachings of Jesus which assists readers in achieving spiritual transformation. Back then when you referred to Marianne as a leader she would humbly reply, “No, I am a student just like you.”
Well, here she is, 25 years later with 13 books under her belt. 6 books on the New York Times Bestseller list and 4 of those books at #1 ! She’s like the Steven King of self love, humanity and spiritual understanding. This woman is self-motivated and tireless too. As an activist Marianne started a local AIDS hospice called the Center for Living, and the Angel Food Project, a service that provided home delivered meals for people who had AIDS, here in Los Angeles. This was at a time when no one would go near anyone who had AIDS. Not Marianne though, nothing scared her.
Many critics are saying Marianne WIlkinson is going to have a really tough run, especially as she is competing for the seat in a race alongside
Henry Waxman who has been sitting in that chair for 38 years! Most people like him for some really great moves he made in the very distant past. Many people vote for him because they just know his name. Lots of people vote for him because they got to shake his hand at a speech or a ribbon cutting. But I wonder, isn’t his bottom getting sore? Isn’t it time he expanded into another role? Is this all about keeping his job so he won’t have to retire at this ripe age of 75? Has he ever thought of being of service in another way? Perhaps by mentoring, or ushering in new ideas and broader visions? We can only hope.
In the meantime it is really our responsibility to pay attention to what is going on in our government. For me, the best thing about Marianne Wilkinson running for congress is that she has motivated people, especially women to have a voice in politics, education, environmental issues and more. I love this quote from Marianne when asked why she is running for the seat when she is a known spiritualist leader… “There’s no place where spirituality stops and anything else in life begins, because spirituality is simply the journey of the heart—the journey from fear to love, from limitation to limitlessness, from living in the past to living in the present. So why wouldn’t someone with a prime focus on spirituality, with a skill set having to do with developing more loving and compassionate viewpoints and behavioral patterns, go into politics?”
I am challenged to step into my own power while learning, understanding and supporting a collective movement concerning real changes in Washington. I hope you will join me, or at least have an open mind. Its time we are conscious of everything so our own authentic self-expressions may be voiced in more ways than one.
God Bless America and the Whole entire Globe.
